Department of Geography

Thanlyin College was firstly opened in (25.2.1999). East Yangon University initiated from Thanlyin College. One year later on (22.2.2000), Thanlyin College was upgrated to East Yangon University. East Yangon University is situated in Kanyinpin Village, Phayargone Village Tracts, Thanlyin Township, Yangon Region. Similarly, Geography Department was also one of the departments of East Yangon University, teaching and learning the geographical knowledges.

The former heads of the department were U Hla Kyaw, Daw Tin Tin Aye, Daw Khin Swe Mya, Dr Naw Helen, Dr Cho Cho, Dr Sandar and Dr Nyein Nyein Win. At present, Professor Dr Aung Swe is head of the department since December 2023 to until now.

Beginning of the 2022-2023 academic year, Environmental Studies, applied subject is teaching by Geography Department, East Yangon University. The Department of Geography offers BA, BA (Honours), MA, B.ES programme in Geography.
